I read a statistic from Dr.
John Townsend stating 90% of our daily thoughts are about the same subjects we
thought about the previous day. They are
not identical but along the same lines. Meaning,
we think about bills, the kids, the house, or whatever most every day. We have upwards of 60,000 thoughts per day. When you do the math, that comes out to 54,000
of our daily thoughts are similar events from the previous day. No wonder people stay stressed and
distracted. Worry brings worry,
frustration brings frustration, and calm brings calm. Of those three items, which is the most
appealing? I cannot think of anyone that
would either of the first two. To bring and maintain calm in life, you have to
devote a portion of each day to getting calm.
I refer to the calming process as a brain drain.
My brain drain consists of quiet
time at the house to allow my head time to de-clutter a little. When I go to bed, I close my eyes and say a
little intention for all the nonsense of the day to go away. My goal each day is to take 10 minutes or so
to close my eyes and visualize total darkness with no distractions. When I skip
a brain drain session, I feel it. I get
bitchy, short with people, and get tension in my neck. If I do not address it, it only gets
worse. I have to deal with it, or it
will deal with me.
When was the last time you
drained your brain?
