One of the best lessons I
learned from Jamie, my counselor, was knowing when I’m done. I am done means I am done with a job, a
situation, a conversation, or someone in my life. I’m done means a boundary. It’s that time where you realize you will no
longer do a certain something, be around certain people, respond a certain way,
or allow certain things to happen in your life.
How else can you say it, Shit Happens!
You can choose to flounder in the suck and bullshit of the past, or you
see it for what it is and move on. We
can only stay in a less than good place as long as we allow it to happen. It is a simple word called, ownership.
People will shit on us as
long as we allow it. People will be a
great influence as long as we allow it.
People will be a drain as long as we allow it. What are the common words in the previous
sentences: “we allow?” I’ve been hurt,
been shit on, and been in places with people of great and positive
influence. In every case, the reaction
was my choice. It’s okay to say I’m
done. It doesn’t mean failure or
success. It just means you’re done, and
only you know when you’re done.
