Gentle Reminders

With all the negative and pessimistic news thrown at us from every angle, it is easy to be sucked down into a less than good mood or place.  I call it the pile on effect.  During a recent conversation about taxes, I was the one that piled on specifically about property taxes.  I consciously heard the pitch in my voice change, and as soon as the complaint left my lips, I thought, “At least I have the money to pay the taxes.”

Daily, we all encounter some less than favorable conversation or person that provides an opportunity to be spun up or off in the weeds of bitchiness.  The next time you feel the urge to complain about your job, redirect it to I am thankful that I have a job.  When you yell at the “stupid” drivers in traffic, redirect it to being thankful that you have a vehicle to drive.  A little redirect in thinking can change your whole day.  We all need gentle reminders about the goodness we have in our life.
