At certain times, I need
someone there for me in a certain role and at other times, I need to be there
for someone to perform that same role. This
one gets back to the simple concept that we are made to depend on others rather
than be the problem solver 100% of the time.
We, the collective we, do not have the capacity or intellect to solve
every issue we encounter on any level.
If that was the case, there would be no need for doctors, therapists,
mechanics, plumbers, friends, or significant others.
In my life, there were, and
I’m sure there will be again, times I thought I could solve any and all things
on my own. I found out the hard way that does not work. I need help and support sometimes and
learning to ask was one of my best lessons ever. Learning that asking for help is not a sign
of weakness but rather of sign of clarity in helping to recognize my
limitations was a total Godsend. When I
have the opportunity to help others, I too consider it a blessing, as I am
allowed to be there for someone, but it also helps me grow by allowing me to
learn and also practice listening and patience without judgment.
One day you’re this one with
this role, a supporter, and one day your, that one, needing support, are you
good with the different roles? If not,
let’s talk.
