In The Zone

It is common to hear athletes, and racecar drivers talk about being in the zone. From my experiences, the zone is that place of laser beam focus and high intensity is required relative to the particular event or task. I recall someone commenting about one of my skydiving pictures: “You look so intense and are not smiling.”  My comment was, “Well, I was falling at 120+ miles an hour and was focused on to my altimeter, as it was about time to pull my chute. There are times we need the laser focus and intensity but not all the time. Sometimes we just need to step away from whatever and lighten up a little.

How often do we say or hear someone say, “I just need a break from everything.”  If you think you need a break, that is a sure fire sign that you need to lighten up.  For me, being in the zone for too long is damn tiring.  All that focus and intensity takes a lot of energy on all levels.
