In a Minute

This morning I caught myself putting my sports drink bottle on the counter and thinking, “I’ll fill it up later.”  As I turned to walk away, I thought, “If I fill it now, I do not have to handle the bottle twice.”  I went ahead and mixed my drink for tomorrow morning’s workout. Then I thought about putting my pocket change on the counter and thinking I would put it in my big change jar later.  Throughout the day, I thought more about the times like those above where I did a little mini-procrastination or thought that I would do something later.  As I added up those small events, there was 10 to 15 minutes of wasted time by not doing things the first time around in just a 24-hour period. That is a fair amount of lost time in a week that I cannot get back. Rather than saying I will do something in a minute, I will do the task right now and have the upcoming minute for something else.
