It's Complicated

All too often, I scratch my head at the number of people who feel the need to put It’s Complicated in their relationship status on social media. Now mind you, these are the same silly people that whine about others being in or knowing their business.  Well, broadcasting your business typically leads to more levels of complication as you continue to perpetuate the issue.

I’ve had conversations with a few people about the very subject of airing the dirty laundry on social media. Without fail, every instance came down to poor communication, or the old what I said versus what you heard scenario. Hiding behind the computer or phone does not make the issue go away.  Instead, the issues escalate as assumption and interpretation come into play.

Communication can be a tough deal and even tougher when you are “communicationally” (Yes, I made up that word) challenged.  The road to better communication starts with the art of listening.  You will be nicely surprised by how quickly your communication skills will improve by listening.  Maybe social media should offer a relationship status option of, I’m Learning.
