Pause

I am a frequent user of the pause button on my iPhone.  During my morning workout, I stream satellite radio and pause the channel when the commercials come on, as I choose not to listen to the babbling.  I also have an internal pause button I use often.

Sometimes, I need to get away from the daily distractions and have quiet time to bleed off the chatter in my head.  The pause can be sitting in the bubba chair with no television or radio, sitting on the beach listening to the waves, or a ride to the country and sitting on the tailgate listening to nothing but nature.  I think of it like my morning cardio routine.

When the workout is finished, I take some time to catch my breath, cool down, then head home, and hit the shower.  If I try to go straight from the gym to the shower, I’m still sweating like a pig, as I did not take the time to pause and cool down.  Pauses are essential to maintaining balance.  Set a daily intention to make time for pauses. It’s not the duration of the pause, but the fact that you are taking a pause.  As the old catch phrase from McDonald’s goes, “You deserve a break today.”
