Years ago, I overheard the following statement and found myself laughing quite loud: What do you call that gap between waking up and going to bed: TIME? It was from a 20 something who chooses to spend a fair amount of his time sleeping. That’s his priority and choice as it is his time. Some would judge him and say he is wasting his life sleeping. Why do they care, it is his time not theirs? Now, let me add a little detail to the statement. I overheard it in a job setting, and this person also goes to college and works full-time? The idea of sleeping a lot takes on a different complexion when you see he is working to better himself and get an education doesn’t it?
“Time is the most valuable thing we have as it can’t be replaced.” I wrote that quote in 2009. I still have some who choose to debate me when I use it: “I would think your spirituality, family, friends, job, etc, are the most valuable things you have?” My response: “They are indeed valuable, but I cannot have any of them without time.” It takes time to develop love, spirituality, friendships, job skills, family, etc. If I am investing my time, I am investing myself in whatever the subject or situation might be, and that is my choice. I am using my time right now to write this little set of words. I could just as easily have not written it or have done something else, but I chose to invest a few minutes of my life into writing what is on my mind at this very moment.
What do you call the gap between being born and leaving this earth: YOUR LIFE? Love the gap. Enjoy the gap. Have fun with the gap. It is your gap. There are many like it, but your gap is yours.
