Nothing Up My Sleeve

Black Friday sales are beyond comical to me. It’s like a shark feeding frenzy. People wait in line for hours to get a certain thing only to find there was only one per store as documented in the fine 6-point font print at the bottom of the ad. The stores know exactly what they are doing. They bait you into the store then get you to buy something more expensive when you find out the “one” item is gone. So, when you stressed and fought for parking, waited in line for hours, only to find out the one item is gone, have you really saved anything? When you put a price on your time and sanity, I would think you lost money.

The bait and switch dance comes in all forms in life. Not only on Black Fridays or buying cars, but also with people. People claim to be one way only to see their actions indicate they are another way. Just like trying to cook the books in accounting, doing the bait and switch always catches up. There are always telltale signs of any bait and switcher when you read the fine print. If your intuition tells you something is off, pay attention. If your friends and family sense something is off, pay attention. Like we were all told as kids, “If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is…” Read the fine print.
