Table for How Many?

Commentary – Below, is something out of my second book, New Angle – New View.  I wrote in back in 2010 and still practice it in 2022.  I normally review my table with each season of the year.  I hope the words speak to you.

I once read the difference between friends and acquaintances is like seating at a dinner table.  There are a finite number of seats at the table.  When it comes to spatial relationships, or those you let in your personal space, those are the ones you should have at your table.  They are your dear friends, confidants, and or family.  They are the ones you want closest, trust the most, and matter most in your life.

The funny thing about the table is, at some point, we all attempt to have a giant table full of people.  Before you know it friends, acquaintances, and strangers are all in our space.  We end up with people who are takers and bring nothing to the table.  It gets back to that little thing called boundaries.

We must know who belongs at the table, who does not, and when it is time to move some away from, or up to, the table.  Unfortunately, it is not always easy removing someone from your table, but it is necessary to stay emotionally and mentally healthy.  Guard the seats, as there should only be a select few with you.  If your table looks like a throw down at a crawfish festival, maybe it is time to rethink your seating.  Table for how many?
