Responsibility Is A Heavy Responsibility
“Life's ups and downs provide windows of opportunity to determine your values and goals. Think of using all obstacles as stepping stones.” - Marsha Sinetar
Today’s title is actually out of a Cheech and Chong movie. Is there some irony in that or what? There is really a lot of truth and meaning buried in the title. When it gets down to it, I am responsible for me. Not my Dad or my sister or anyone else. It is all mine 100%. I have total ownership of my responsibility. As it is written, “with great power, comes great responsibility.”
In today’s society though, the very first thing out of someone’s mouth when something happens is: “who is responsible?” Society is ALWAYS looking for someone else to push the blame or responsibility on. Lawyers try to deflect responsibility for their clients. Some parents trying to blame another parent for their “Little Angel” making a less than favorable choice. In fact, you are seeing a classic case of it with the passing of Michael Jackson. They, the media and everyone else, immediately started looking at and suggesting something questionable with the attending Dr. even before Michael was taken away. Maybe he just had a heart attack. Ya know, they do indeed just happen.
I yearn for the day when people will again be honorable, stand up, and take responsibility for their lives and choices. Heck I know people my age that still try to deflect blame rather than standing up and owning it. It will be music to my ears to hear one of the Entitled Generation of teenagers and 20-somethings say: “I made a mistake…I messed up…I have no excuse…I take full responsibility…” I have faith it will happen.
I used the quote below on June 5th, but it bears repeating and is oh so fitting.
“Character - the willingness to accept responsibility for one's own life - is the source from which self-respect springs.” - Joan Didion
Action Item – We have a wonderful group of right minded thinkers. Let’s share a little, and show someone what it’s like to be responsible.

Tonya sent me an email last night that she and Kevin joined my gym. They gave them my name, and I get two months of free membership for the referral. Goodness for all. Thanks TJ.

I wrote a while back about little tips and tricks to save a few sheckles here and there. Two weeks ago I called up Gexa Energy, my electrical service provider, to check on rates. I was paying 15.7 cents per kWh. By renewing on their one year contract, the rate was reduced to 10.9 cents per kWh. On my last bill alone, that would have equated to a $72 reduction. Call your service provider to check your options.
Another saving opportunity came up just by contacting DirecTV about my service. I was looking over a flying for AT&T’s U-verse offering and comparing prices. I sent a note to DirecTV (have been with them 10 years now) indicating I was shopping them, and they responded indicating I am eligible for some equipment upgrades to an HD DVR at no charge. That’s normally a $200 box. I have not done anything yet and am gonna let them set for a few days. Who knows, the offer could get better.
