“So, what’s the takeway?”
Well, the dictionary says it is a key fact, point, or idea to be remembered,
typically one emerging from a discussion or meeting. I choose to believe there
is a takeway, from every event we encounter in life. No matter how significant
or insignificant, they leave a mark, or as I refer to them, learnable moments.
Back in 2009, I came up with the following daily task list for myself and ended
up putting them on the back of my first book in 2010: The View From A Different
Angle.
- Make a
Difference in Someone’s Life – It can be as simple as a smile, a hug, a
kind word, a handshake, or a handout.
- Learn at
Least One New Thing – Life presents so many opportunities to learn. Just
keep your eyes open and listen.
- Meet at Least One New Person – Say hello to stranger. You never know what you may learn from that chance encounter.
So, what do the three things do for me? They leave or provide me with opportunities for
takeaways aka learnable moments. Think
about your day and encounters. You will be surprised how many takeway moments
you experience or leave behind.
