I heard the term mental gymnastics used to describe the racing thoughts and nonsense that floats around in our heads. We get to a point where we have so much going on in our heads that we cannot make sense out of any of it. When I cannot see things clearly or make solid decisions, I know my head is doing mental gymnastics, and I need to step away, simplify, re-center, and find my balance.
The first thing I do is literally make a list of everything rolling around in my head and prioritize all of it. I look at what must be done now, what items depend on other things to get done, and what can wait. It is another tool for good time management. Here is a quick example. When I need groceries and gas, I go to the Kroger store that has a gas station. I get my groceries, and I get a discount on gas for shopping at Kroger. There you have it, two things done and off the list at the same place. It is that simple. Simplify your life by simplifying your head. Mental gymnastics are good for keeping your frustrated and tired, and that’s about it.
