Thought of the Day 8/18/09

The Outcome

“I remind myself every morning: Nothing I say this day will teach me anything. So if I'm going to learn, I must do it by listening.” - Larry King

Hold On! I’m reading yet another book.

I ran across a set of words in a sentence that “flashed” at me like a big neon sign: “…we must let go of the attachment to the outcome…” Isn’t that so often the case? We get more focused on the outcome rather than the journey of getting there. When I read it, it reminded of the old motorcycle rider saying: “it’s not the destination, it’s the ride.” All of which still translates to one simple word, patience.

I find it funny that I get “patience challenged” with certain aspects of my life, and yet I can get on the Harley with nary a clue of where I’m going or how long I will be gone, and all is well. I get on it without an expectation of the outcome. I do know I will end up where I am supposed to be on that particular ride. It is indeed just another one of my many therapy tools to help me work on balancing my life.

So the takeaway I have from the excerpt from the book is a reminder that I should visualize my life as a ride on the Harley. The outcome is irrelevant as long as I cherish and enjoy the ride.

Action Item – Where is your focus: on the outcome or the journey? It is your choice.

Positive News

All Sorts of Goodness
I sent two of the A Complaint Free World bracelets out to Michele in MS last week. The funny thing is that she said she only needed one. I told her I would send two as I felt she would find someone to do it with her. She sent me a note yesterday morning that she did indeed find a friend to do the challenge. Additionally, her friend asked to be added to the group. Welcome to our newest member, Melinda. Our group grows to 85 now.

David’s sister Lisa joined us too. Welcome, Lisa you are #86.
