For most of my life, I was a hard-line card carrying, “P.” Now, I tend to lean more to being a, “WI.” Oh, I guess I should define a P and WI. A P is a Planner and a WI is a Wing It type. Most everything in a P’s life runs according to a by the minute plan. If it’s not on the plan, a P gets flustered and pissy. They get coffee at a certain time, work out at a certain time, go to work at a certain time, and on and on. Most everything in a WI’s life runs according to a when it happens it happens, kind of philosophy. P's think WI's are irresponsible, and WI's think P's are tight asses that have no fun.
As mentioned earlier, I was a P for the biggest part of my life. Everything had to run according to the project plan/timeline in my head. Any deviation from the plan, would send me down pissy lane for a while. When I shifted directions in life 15+ years ago, so did my inner planner. I shifted toward being more of a wing it person. I found that winging it is like being a kid on Christmas morning looking at all the presents, “hm, I wonder what’s in that box.” I look at each day with anticipation rather than wondering if the day will go according to a plan.
I am also still a planner about work or needing to get things done at certain times. The difference now is I am not so regimented about it. If I have appointments or meetings, I am still 10 to 15 minutes early, but for other things I need to do, I just let them happen whenever they are going to happen. Does it make a difference if I pick up my dry cleaning today or tomorrow, absolutely not? Does it make a difference if I work out in the morning or afternoon, absolutely not?
In reality, I’m not a P or a WI. I’m a blend of both, a Hybrid. I’m a WI with P tendencies. I guess that makes me a WIP – Wing It Planner. Which are you, a P, a WI or a Hybrid like me? In my world, you can be anything you want to be.
